You wanted to disappear. But not forever . . .

From million copy bestselling author, Sarah Pearse, comes a thrilling new novel. Here’s what we know so far:

  1. The Wilds is about an artist who has left her hometown to live her life on the road in a campervan. Kier’s twin always knows where she is, until she suddenly goes silent.
  2. It’s set in a remote national park – although fictionalised, the park is inspired by Sarah’s visit to the vast and imposing Peneda-De-Geres in Portugal.
  3. Fans of The Sanatorium and The Retreat will find themselves reunited with Detective Elin Warner! Sarah describes Elin as ‘very open as a narrator and as a detective, telling the reader and the characters around her exactly how she is feeling. I wanted her to be a female detective who doesn’t have it all together, someone who has the same fears and anxieties as people do in real life.’
  4. Kier, the missing woman, creates unique maps of the places she visits – unusual, personalised maps that show what she thinks and feels, and not just where she has been. The map Kier leaves behind, and which Elin discovers, suggests something disturbing was going on…
  5. Through the maps, the novel also explores what place means to people, and how places have an emotional hold on all our hearts and souls.
  6. The Wilds is Sarah’s most personal novel. ‘This is a story that has consumed me ever since I started writing . . . The Wilds is the book I’m most proud of writing, the book that’s most personal to me and also the book that has creatively challenged me in every way.’
  7. The Wilds is out in hardback, eBook and audiobook on 16th July and is available to pre-order now.
