Desert Island Crime with Elizabeth Kay

Never has there been a time when Desert Island Crime has felt so relevant – if you’re looking for lockdown reading recommendations then bestselling authors will help you choose!

This week, Elizabeth Kay, author of the most explosive debut novel, Seven Lies, reveals the 8 titles she would read if stranded on a desert island.

Over to you Elizabeth…

GONE GIRL by Gillian Flynn

Like so many others, I was completely floored by the twist in this novel. I was absolutely sure that I knew what was happening, until suddenly everything changed, and I didn’t have a clue! I loved that sense of the ground shifting beneath my feet.

REBECCA by Daphne du Maurier

This is one of my all-time favourites. I am always drawn to dark, sinister novels with bold female characters, and there’s something about the doubt and uncertainty on every page that makes Rebecca absolutely unputdownable.

THE SECRET HISTORY by Donna Tartt

If I could read only one book for the rest of my life, I’d choose The Secret History. It is seductive, detailed, mesmerizing and truly a classic. I recommend it to everyone!

HE SAID SHE SAID by Erin Kelly

I read He Said She Said in a single sitting because I simply couldn’t put it down. It is beautifully written with unforgettable characters, and it will keep you guessing until the very end.

GONE by Leona Deakin

This was one of the first detective thrillers that landed on my desk in my job as an editor, and it remains one of my absolute favourite books. There’s a complex, intriguing and unpredictable investigator, dozens of twists and turns, and a villain who just keeps coming back.

MY SISTER, THE SERIAL KILLER by Oyinkan Braithwaite

I adored this book. It is sharp and funny and wonderfully disturbing. I think it should be required reading for anyone with a sister!

THE WIDOW by Fiona Barton

This is such a dark, unsettling and clever thriller. It explores the secrets within a marriage from a very fresh and unexpected angle, and the ending is guaranteed to take your breath away!

THIRTEEN by Steve Cavanagh

This is such a smart book! The premise is intriguing, and the reading experience absolutely delivers on that promise. It is fast-paced, original and brilliantly plotted; you’ll find yourself hunting out every other book by this author when you’re finished!

Thanks Elizabeth!
