A Tribute to M.C. Beaton

We’re very saddened by the passing of our beloved author M.C. Beaton who passed away in December at the age of 83.

As author of the much-loved Agatha Raisin and Hamish Macbeth series she was adored by many readers and to honour her memory we have pulled together some of her extremely impressive stats:

  • ▪️ M.C. Beaton has been the most borrowed adult author in British libraries since 2011
  • ▪️ She had sold over 21 million copies of her books worldwide as M.C. Beaton
  • ▪️ She has written under 7 pseudonyms
  • ▪️ We drank G&Ts with Agatha Raisin through a whopping 30 mystery adventures, with more to come
  • ▪️ Agatha Raisin has been brought to life on both our Radio stations (by Penelope Keith) and our TV screens (played by Ashley Jensen)
  • ▪️ We’ve solved over 34 cases with Hamish Macbeth and watched as Robert Carlyle brought him to life for 3 full series on our TV’s
  • ▪️ We have also twirled through over 150 of her Historical Romance and Mystery titles

M C Beaton’s editor Krystyna Green commented: “I’m going to miss her dreadfully as after 23 years I’d grown from being in awe of her, to thinking she was absolutely wonderful – and very kind under her rather fierce exterior. She was forthright and uncompromising and never afraid to express a view, no matter how unfashionable. She was funny, wise, and truly an inspiring, utterly unique individual.”

Please join us in commemorating such a wonderful author and have a listen to an interview remembering her from Mike Ripley
