One of my favourite Christmas memories occurred on Christmas Eve when I was about eight. I was sharing a room with some cousins and we were sent to bed despite our pleas to be allowed to stay up and watch a ghost story on television. Fortunately another cousin (who was out at a party) had a TV in his bedroom so we crept in there and watched anyway.

When it was over we crept back to bed but were too terrified to sleep. Consequently when our parents later entered our darkened room with stockings we thought they were ghosts and screamed the house down! Needless to say, an ear-shattering Christmas was had by all.
