7 Weird food facts from M.W. Craven

1) Most figs contain wasps 

 

2) Fresh, raw oysters are still alive when you eat them

 

3) Bird saliva is one of the most expensive cooking ingredients in the world

 

4) Secretions from the anal glands of beavers are used as vanilla flavouring in ice cream

 

5) The primary and most efficient source of the additive L-Cysteine (commonly used to enhance flavour in cakes and bagels) is human hair!

 

6) You’ll be aware that hot dogs aren’t the purest form of meat, but you might NOT know that a recent study found that 2% of them contained human DNA. Worse still, 2/3 of the human hot dogs were supposedly vegetarian
